Met forecasts light snowfall, rains from today

The Meteorological department Thursday predicted light rains in the plains while the upper reaches of Kashmir would receive moderate snowfall from Thursday till Friday afternoon.
Director Meteorological department Kashmir, Sonam Lotus told that they were expecting another spell of light to moderate rains in the plains and snowfall over next 24 to 36 hours in the higher reaches of Jammu Kashmir and also in some parts of Ladakh.
“The inclement weather will start from Wednesday late evening in some places of J&K and continue till Thursday evening and thereafter decrease gradually,” he said.
Lotus said some places in Jammu region may experience thunderstorms on Thursday and rainfall may lead to landslides in Banihal-Ramban leading to temporary disruptions of surface transportation on the Srinagar-Jammu highway.
“Compared to the previous spells, the intensity of light rains and snowfall will be low,” he said.
A senior official at the Indian Metrological Department (IMD) said Western Disturbances had entered Kashmir region Wednesday afternoon and were likely to remain for the next 24 hours.
