Shortage of doctors, paramedical staff at SDH irks Mandi locals

Poonch, Mar 03 (GNS): Many health centres here are running without specialists from last several years, notwithstanding administrations claims about better healthcare facilities to the citizens.

According to reports, Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Mandi in border district Poonch is running without specialists as a result locals are suffering a lot.

Reports said that posts of Surgeon, Child specialist, Physician, Gynaecologist, Anesthesia consultant are lying vacant at SDH Mandi from last six years. The locals told GNS that despite appeals to the higher authorities, the administration has failed to fill up the same.

The locals said that due to non-availability of specialist in SDH they are forced to visit private clinics. The sources said that the sanction strength of medical officers in SDH Mandi is eight but at present there are only five medical officers who are manning Outdoor Patient Department (OPD) which witnesses’ massive rush of patients.

They said that on an average around 1000 patients visits OPD for check-up and the absence of specialists and medical officers is badly hampering the smooth functioning of the hospital. The locals also alleged that the administration has transferred two specialists last year but failed to make their replacement.

The people have sought the intervention of the Lt Governor Girish Chandra Murmu and have urged him to direct the health department to fill all vacant posts on priority to provide a sigh of relief to the commoners.
