J&K Govt Likely To Roll Back 50 Percent Extra Corona Taxes On Liquor

Excise Commissioner J&K Rajesh Kumar Shavan vide letter No: EC/Adm/733/2020/1012, Dated10.7.2020, requested Financial Commissioner Finance Department J&K for waiving off additional Excise Duty on liquor submitting that after taking review of the revenue realization in the last two months there is drastic fall in the sale of liquor especially middle & low economy brands and also the sales in Army/Para –Military units Canteens.

The 50% additional excise duty has discouraged the consumers to purchase less quantity both in open market as well as in the unit Canteens. Figures revealed that the quota lifted from the Army Depots across the Union Territory has declined as compared to previous period. Reliably it is learnt that many other States have rolled backed the additional duty (Corona Tax).

“It is therefore recommended that this 50% additional duty may kindly be waived off, till the new Policy comes into force so that overall sale and manufacturing of liquor/Beer is enhanced to generate revenue” the letter reads.
