Jammu, August 15: The 74th Independence Day was today celebrated with great enthusiasm, fervour and national spirit at Mini Stadium, Parade. Advisor to Lieutenant Governor K.K Sharma was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The Advisor unfurled the national flag and inspected the parade in an open jeep and took the salute from the contingents of BSF, District Police, CRPF, JKAP, UTDRF, Forest Protection Force and IRP.
During his speech, wishing the people of UT on the occasion of Independence Day, the Advisor said we got our freedom after a prolonged struggle and this day symbolizes unity in diversity of our great Nation. He said that this day reminds us sacrifices made by countless freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the dignity and freedom of our motherland.
Even after Independence, many brave Indians have sacrificed their life for ensuring the sovereignty and integrity of our country, he added. This day also offers us an opportunity to pay them a rich and respectful tribute.
He called upon all to set personal goals toward nation building. ‘Striving to excel in ones line of profession also leads to the nation’s development and prosperity’, he said.
The Advisor also counted numerous developmental projects and works undertaken in the UT by the government. He said the administration is trying its best to lead Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory on the glorious path of development and prosperity.
He informed that government distributed LED bulbs to 16 lakh families under Ujala scheme, LPG cylinders to 12 lakh families under Ujjwala yojna and more than 20 lakh insurances under Ayushman Bharat. He added that work has been stated under Smart City Project in Jammu and Srinagar. Ambitious Ropeway project was inaugurated and other tourist spots have been developed. Many more initiatives have been taken to attract investment in the J&K, he added.
To address the issues regarding unemployment, Sharma said that 11 thousand posts have been advertised under different notification for various departments.
Terming the changes introduced by the Centre as “historical”, Sharma said they will open a new door of development and help various communities promote their languages and cultures in Jammu and Kashmir. “These changes have removed the hurdles for economic development and prosperity,” he added.
He said that government has taken many steps to further strengthen Panchayati Raj institutions and funds are now directly transferred to the accounts of PRI members for the development of their respected areas.
The Advisor appreciated the services rendered by various officers of the different department including Medical, PWD, Information, Revenue, Police, JMC, Education and Rural Development during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also felicitated 43 Corona Warriors including Dr Shashi Sudan, HOD Microbiology GMC, Dr Shahid Hussain Nodal Officer, CMO Office, Jasmeet Singh AC Nazool, Satish Sharma Nodal Officer, Sub Registrar Udhampur.
On the occasion, scintillating pre-recorded videos at Balidaan Stambh, Bahu Fort, Amar Palace and Mubarakh Mandi Heritage Complex depicting patriotism and culture were also presented by Information Department. The band of BSF and JKP performed on the patriotic songs.
Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, Rajya Sabha MP Shamsher Singh Manhas, Mayor JMC Chander Mohan Gupta, Principal Secretaries, Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Verma, IGP, Mukesh Singh, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Sushma Chauhan, HODs and senior officers of the various departments were present on the occasion.
